International Caspian Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition - a landmark event in the Azerbaijan business activities in June
The 18th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference Incorporating Refining and Petrochemicals , the largest event in the Caspian Region’s oil and gas sector, was held in Baku on 7-10 June by the ITE Group. The event is traditionally supported by the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Republic and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and was officially opened by Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan Republic.
The exhibition and conference brought together the leading experts and key players in the global petroleum sector to discuss sector-related issues and to showcase the latest achievements in oil and gas production and processing. It was attended by 285 companies from 27 countries. Exhibitors include national display stands from the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey, Germany etc. Over 40% of the exhibition space was occupied by globally renowned major state oil and gas companies and corporations, most of which are permanent participants in the Caspian Oil and Gas exhibition, i.e. BP, OMV Gas International GmbH, SOCAR, Statoil, Total, TPAO and many others.
As highlighted by Khoshbakht Yusifzade, First Vice President for Geology, Geophysics and Mining of SOCAR, since development of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli offshore fields’ block back in 1997, production has reached 238 million tons of oil and 60 billion cubic meters of gas in the Azerbaijani part of the Caspian Sea. Among the other speakers were Lars Troen Sorensen, President of Statoil Azerbaijan, Rashid Javanshir, President of BP Azerbaijan, who have reviewed recent developments of the oil industry in Azerbaijan and proudly drew historical parallels between the past and the present in hydrocarbon fuel production and the reserves upon which the planet depends for its future.
