About Us

History      Welcome to Kazakhstan and Central Asia     Welcome to Azerbaijan and Caucasus     Client Commitment     Our Clients     Our Offices

Since 1998, when the firm was established in Kazakhstan, the Region has gone through several business cycles, and is currently enjoying a period of strong economic growth. As a firm, we are also growing. With currently over forty employees we are able to provide you with a complete, business-based, legal consultancy service to ensure that your investment in the Region is secure.

Our firm’s strength lies not only in the quality of the employees, but in its independence and focus on the Region. Unlike other international law firms in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, MWP's senior management is based in the region. Since decisions are taken domestically, and not in another country separated by many time zones, our overseas clients have the confidence to know that we are able to support their interests in real time, even if they themselves are based elsewhere.

With an economic strength underwritten by its mineral wealth, and driven by the long-term, strategic approach of President Nazarbayev and his team, Kazakhstan has become the economic powerhouse of the whole Central Asian region. Its long term stability is cemented by a strong banking and financial sector which is second to none in the countries of the former Soviet Union.

With its investor-friendly policies, and the continuing, growing confidence in the integrity of its financial markets, the leadership of the country is looking to the future. A stabilisation fund has been established, ensuring that its oil wealth is not squandered. The next stage of this plan is to seek to create areas of business expertise, which will stand the country in good stead when revenues from sub-surface projects eventually start to decline, and to encourage foreign investors, by way of incentives, to invest in these sectors. Please contact us for more details of these investment opportunities.

As part of this overall plan, Almaty, the biggest city in the country in terms of population, and the former capital city, is to re-invent itself as the Regional Financial Centre, eventually offering products, services and expertise across Central Asia and beyond.

Michael Wilson & Partners, Ltd. wholeheartedly applauds this far-sighted initiative. It has recently showed its support by moving its Almaty operations to Nurly Tau, within a stone's throw of the heart of the new financial district, the Financial Plaza on Al Farabi Street, which will be home to many of the country's largest financial institutions.

We look forward to seeing our current and future clients at this new venue.
